Home Security: 5 Best Locks For External Doors

home-security

When you’re looking to have the external locks at your property changed or upgraded to improve home security measures it can be quite a daunting task, simply because there are so many different types and brand on the market, all offering different levels of security. This is why our team at Pontefract Locksmith Solutions have put together this helpful guide on the 5 best external door locks commonly used across the UK.

Deadbolts – these are heavy duty locks that in most cases are completely separate from the handle. Once locked the bolt will come out of the door and into the wall and once locked the door will not be able to be opened. Deadbolts, when fitted correctly are a very strong security measure to have in place. When installing a deadbolt it is also important that the strike plate is fitted correctly to ensure that the bolt goes all the way into the wall.

Keyed Locks – Keyed locks are a good option when a dead lock can’t be fitted. These are often found on patio doors. This type of lock offers a good level of security for your home especially when you have them installed at the top and the bottom of the door.

Electronic Locks – This type of lock is relatively new to the market and it doesn’t require the use of a traditional key, instead it uses a pass code, smart phone or key fob. This is a quite high-tech security measure but is becoming increasingly more popular in homes today.

Door Handle Locks – This is probably the most common type of lock used across the UK and when used alongside other locks such as the deadbolt they become very effective.

Combination Locks – This type of lock is either electronic or mechanical. The electronic lock usually require a pin or password to unlock and the mechanical ones use a twist dial or push button.
